Did John Abraham Take A Jibe At Akshay Kumar For Releasing Laxmii On OTT? Actor Says, ‘If An Actor Is Not Confident Of A Film, He Dumps It On OTT'
Many filmmakers showcased their work on the OTT platform when the COVID-19 pandemic got the theatres non-functional in 2020. During the pandemic films such as Akshay Kumar’s Laxmii, Amitabh Bachchan-Ayushmann Khurrana Gulabo-Sitabo, Janhvi Kapoor’s Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl and more hit the OTT platform. While it was also in the news that John Abraham’s Mumbai Saga will skip its theatrical release and opt for OTT, lead John was not in favour of it.

As per reports in Mid Day, he shared films that chose the OTT platform were either mediocre or bad, this got us thinking did he just take a dig at Akshay Kumar? John said, “Let’s be honest, it’s a common industry notion that if an actor is not confident of a film, he dumps it on OTT. Almost 90 per cent of movies that opted for OTT release were bad. I am not saying this film is spectacular, but we are not worried about its failure. I won’t use the pandemic as a crutch.”

Apparently, as per reports Akshay and John are not on good terms after their box office clash with Gold and Satyameva Jayate and Mission Mangal and Batla House being released on the same day.

Also, the actor shared when he came to know that the makers are planning to release it on Amazon Prime, he had a word with the producer Bhushan Kumar he explained his opinion about why the film should release it in theatres over OTT. John adds, “When I heard there were talks with Amazon Prime, I had a chat with Bhushan (Kumar, producer) and Gupta (Sanjay Gupta, director). It won’t make as much money as movies did in 2019. All theatres across the country haven’t opened, but with this film, a few more will. After we announced this film, five more movies were announced (for a theatrical run).” ALSO READ: Mumbai Saga: Sanjay Gupta Is Back On His Favourite Hunting Ground With John Abraham
